Fire drill madness!!

These are pictures and videos of a scheduled fire drill in my building at Easter time. The building staff warned us that they would switch the lifts off at 9.30 in the morning so we left the building at 9 and went across the street to the deli for breakfast. There was NO way I was walking down 25 flights of stairs!



The basically simulated a fire situation complete with fake smoke and fire engines. It was very funny and a bit unreal to watch everyone taking it super seriously. They had a tanoy system blaring out REALLY loud music whilst it was going on and then they had a person doing a running commentary!!



The smoke is starting to billow out of the car park area.



People start to gather in the street to watch the festivities. All the blokes in the red tops are construction workers from the site next door.






They set up a fake medical area to show how emergencies might be dealt with in a real fire.


These fellas were hysterical! They were rolling around and groan covered in fake blood. I think they were the window cleaners who work in the building. Filipinos LOVE to perform.

I think something happened to the smoke machine here. People started to panic as they couldn't see anymore. I think they thought a real fire had started somewhere.





The police were even employed to shut off the street whilst it was all happening.






The firemen started to put up ropes to prepare to rescue some 'victims'.

Here were crowds of people there. Maids who don't normally work on Saturdays came in just to watch the fire drill. It's a yearly attraction.

Wow isn't he brave! The 'victim's were all rescued from the car park, which didn't give me much faith in ever being rescued from the 25Th floor! (soon to be 39Th)

Ahhhh. Safe at last. Everyone cheered!!!




Okay. Now came the demonstration part of the morning. The fire fighters created scenarios where you would have to put out fires. These demonstrations were SO dangerous. The firemen weren't wearing proper gear, no gloves or masks. The extinguishers weren't even working properly. Whats worse than all that is they they encouraged and then let untrained members of the public have a go at putting fires out without any protective equipment either. They created fires out of a a vat of petrol and then they set fire to a gas canister full of GAS!!

Okay, so this is the petrol burning now. I went back inside the deli to take this picture. They let random people off the street with nothing to protect them from burns to put out the fire.








This was the scariest part of the whole day when they started to set fire to the cylinders of gas.






I came out of the deli again to take more pictures. But the set the gas cylinder on fire and a woman volunteered to put it out. She panicked and knocked it over which sent the cylinder into a spin spraying out fire. Needless to say everyone thought it was going to explode and started running away screaming (or was that just me). So that was the end of the photos. I'll add some videos later.
