Road trip highlights - Miss Gay 2009

OK.... so we eventually made it to Camayan Beach Resort in one piece late Friday night. We spent Saturday lazing around on the beach and doing some snorkeling. In the evening we were chilling out on the beach having a few beers watching some fellas erecting a stage with lights and sound. When we asked the barmen what the stage was for, we were super excited to find out that there was a gay beauty pageant being held at the resort that night!

A chain of local beauty salons were at the resort that weekend for their annual summer weekend away/retreat and had pretty much taken over the resort. Needless to say we immediately begged to be judges when the hosts of the show turned up that evening. They agreed and were delighted that we wanted to take part. It was AWESOME! I don't remember the last time I laughed that much.

Liz, Jo and I were joined by 2 members of resort staff to make up the panel of judges. We were trying to outdo each other to be the best judge and I even resorted to speaking a little Tagalog to earn the approval of the very loud (and appreciative of my effort) crowd. There was several different rounds; national costume, swimsuit, question and answer (my favourite) and the talent section. The ladies who were competing had put such a massive effort into their performances and appearances and it made scoring difficult.

The barmen who were trying very hard to prove they were the only heterosexual men in the hotel.

The hosts. So funny. They were like a gay Ant and Dec.
